PMB040 Axis of Evil: Syd Dale, Advisory Circle, Lalo Schifrin, Harmonic 33, Monroeville Music Center, Klaus Wunderlich, Googoosh, "Weird Al" Jankovic

PMB040: Axis of EvilOn the show this week it's all fear, paranoia, black ops and extraordinary rendition as we take on the Axis of Evil. This was inspired by a truly wonderful song on the latest album by "Weird Al" Jankovic (Alpocalypse) which involves taking Miley Cyrus' 2009 hit Party in the USA and translating it to the world of the Men in Black.

We also have a track from the latest release from the Monroeville Music Center, a track from the brand new album by The Advisory Circle, a newly discovered version of show favourite Caravan by German organ maestro Klaus Wunderlich, a Japanese surf guitarist playing the classics and a track from Finders Keepers' new compilation of tunes from Iranian pop princess Googoosh.

PLEASE BE AWARE: This week's show may be a little unsafe for playing in the work environment or in the vicinity of small children as we are sorry to say that the F-bomb gets dropped on a number of occasions.

Weird Al Jankovic - Party In The CIA

As a teaser for this week's edition of the show which is all about the Axis of Evil, Fear, Paranoia and Black Ops, here's the video for the track which inspired us to address this urgent topic. We're not normally huge fans of the comedy song here on the Moonbase but both the lyrics and the video for this are so stupendously good that we felt we had to feature it on the show.

So without any further ado here is "Weird Al" Jankovic's re-arrangement of Miley Cyrus' Party in the USA from his new album Alpocalypse:

9th Annual Musical Saw Festival in NYC, 16 July 2011

If you happen to find yourself in New York City this weekend, you might like to know that the 9th Annual Musical Saw Festival will be taking place on Saturday 16 July. The festival is organised by musical saw virtuoso Natalia Paruz, aka the Saw Lady.

You may recall we played the Saw Lady's extraordinary version of the theme to Star Trek on PMB023 - Shatnoy, our show celebrating the combined 80th birthdays of William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy earlier this year. Well, here's the video we got the music from:

Nearly 40 players of the musical saw have registered so far so if you'd like to immerse yourself in the other-worldly sound of the saw. Or if you'd like to join in on your very own instrument, why not head over to the Hellenic Cultural Center, 27-09 Crescent Street, Astoria, NY 11102-3142 from 2pm.

PMB039 Spectrum: Gil Trythall, Ken Nordine, Mel Blanc, The Ravens, YMCK, Jean-Jacques Perrey, Wing

PMB039: SpectrumAs we are recording this week's show at the height of glorious Summer [cough] with all the vibrant hues we see at this time of year, we thought we should celebrate by dedicating the whole show to the world of colours.

To be honest, though, the main reason we're doing this is that DJ Bongoby heard a couple of tracks a few weeks ago which he's been itching to crowbar into a show. However, by a stroke of luck they both happen to have a colour in the title and so from that seed a whole show has been grown.
