NASA Graphic Standards Manual — 1976

What with the final shuttle flight and all, NASA has been in our thoughts. Frankly, NASA is always in our thoughts. Thoughts like "Can I get a pair of adult sized NASA space-suit pyjamas?" or "Where can I buy rolls of NASA wallpaper?" That's why I was delighted to see pictures of their 1976 graphics manual over at www.aisleone.net. Now at least I'll know the correct branding when I knit my own NASA TV blanket and slipper combo.

PMB034: Disco From Another GalaxyOn the show this week we welcome back special guest Space Disco Jeff for his annual visit to the Moonbase. As you can probably guess, this means it's time to get out your galactic glitter ball and clear a space in your lounge for some serious flare-swinging action.

As well as space disco, we also have a selection from a new "Kollywood" compilation on Finders Keepers and a rather hard to find curio from the High Llamas.

The Unnecessary News

Nadia Cassini - Encounters

As a perfect antipasto to this evening's space-disco themed edition of Project Moonbase, we invite you to enjoy this extraordinary silver-clad vision from late 70s Italy:

There are many things to enjoy about this video: the tin-can based entry and exit, many never-before-witnessed dance moves, a lighting operator who is clearly so bedazzled by Nadia's performance that he often plunges her into complete darkness, the entirely static orchestra and a microphone cable wrapped in foil: a lovely detail.

Many thanks to listener Squig for bringing this urgent matter to our attention.

It Is Rocket Science

If you were tuning in to Project Moonbase back in those heady days when we were using an FM transmitter for our broadcasts from the recent future, you may recall that we interviewed Helen Keen who was bringing her first solo show, It Is Rocket Science, to the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh.

Well despite the fact that the first performance had just one lone audience member, the show went on to be a bit of a surprise hit at the Fringe. In fact the BBC quickly decided to turn it into a series for Radio 4, co-writen by Helen Keen and Miriam Underhill. The first (of four) episodes goes out this every evening at 11pm. As well as Helen Keen, it also stars Peter Serafinowicz and Susy Kane.

Watch the skies! (Or at least listen to airwaves!)
