The Show On tonight's show: Easter Bunnies, tracks from the new Holden album, something from Mike Batt(!), ukulele, organ, Moog and a couple of tracks from the still-to-be-released new album from The Emperor Machine. The Music We started this Easter show with a brace of bunnies: 1. Metrophonics - Close Up (Charles Wilp: Michelangelo In Space - The Bunny Remixes, 2000) 2. Tipsy - Bunny Kick (Uh-Oh!, 2001) Next up a track from the brand new album by Holden: 3. Holden - Mia (Fantomatisme, 2009) Followed by another piece of French pop - complete with ukulele: 4. Mareva Galanter - C'est Bon (UkuYéyé, 2006) @Mike_Batt started following me on Twitter so to mark this auspicious event we played this next track. Shortly afterwards, he stopped following me on Twitter. I'm not sure if the two are related: 5. Synthesonic Sounds - Superfly (The Easy Project - 20 Loungecore Favourites, 1973) As a certain car manufacturer has decided to use a song by The Free Design to promote their latest vehicle we felt it was time play a song by this wonderful band: 6. The Free Design - Canada In Springtime (There Is A Song, 1972) 7. The Bran Flakes - Dance Of The Sugarsnap Fairy (I Have Hands, 2008) Following the news of the "surprise" premiere of the new Star Trek movie (see below) we played possibly the only guitar version of the theme tune: 8. The Ventures - Star Trek (Batman Theme & TV Themes) 9. The Emperor Machine - The Frontist (Space Beyond The Egg, 2009) 10. Bill Bockey - Berk (45 single) 11. Tony Hatch & The Satin Brass - Codename (Sounds Of The 70s, 1970) We meant to play this next track on last week's show - oops! 12. Jack Parnell - Cha Cha Rock (Trip to Mars, 1958) 13. Bert Kaempfert - Cha Cha Brasilia (That Latin Feeling, 1964) Then we returned to the new Holden album: 14. Holden - Longue Est Ma Descente - Fantomatisme - 2009 Followed by a track which we meant to play on last week's show marking what would have been Joe Meek's 80th birthday: 15. The Sharades - Dumb Head (Let's Go! Joe Meek's Girls, 1995) Our roaming charity shop digger, Fuz, sent us a truly extraordinary version of the theme to the Godfather: 16. Harold Smart - Love Theme from the Godfather (Love Sensations) And we closed the show with another master of the organ: 17. Dick Hyman - The Third Man Theme (The Man From O.R.G.A.N., 1965) The News

The Show Today would have marked the 80th birthday of pioneering producer/engineer/composer Joe Meek if he were still with us. So we played a few tracks by him. We also got our hands on a great new 6-CD set of Tony Hatch albums. So expect some quality Hatch cheese. Stereolab have decided to call it a day (at least for the time being) so we'll remind ourselves just how great a band they were/are. The Music We opened the show with another track from the Moog Cookbook's elusive third album, Bartell: 1. Shonen Knife - Twist Barbie (Moog Cookbook remix) (Bartell) 2. Jonny Trunk - Nest We Forgot (A Psychedelic Guide to Monsterism Island, 2009) There's a great 6-album set of Tony Hatch albums out for a bargain basement price: 3. Tony Hatch & Jackie Trent - Morning Dew (The Two Of Us, 1968) 4. Moe Koffman - Curried Soul As mentioned above, Stereolab have decided to go into hiatus. Hopefully not forever but this news prompted us to feature a couple of our favourite 'lab tracks starting with one from their most recent album: 5. Stereolab - Neon Beanbag (Chemical Chords, 2008) Then it was time for the first of this evening's tracks by Joe Meek who would have turned 80 today if he hadn't really left this dimension: 6. The Tornados - Robot (Joe Meek - The Alchemist Of Pop, 1963) 7. Lloyd Cramer - Let's Go To honour the great Heinz Wolff who is coming to Edinburgh for the Science Festival: 8. Richard Denton & Martin Cook - The Great Egg Race (1979) News of the Orion space capsule (see below) prompted us to play this great Peter Thomas tune: 9. Tätärä - Orion (Next Show, 2000) 10. Geoff Goddard - Sky Men (Joe Meek - The Alchemist Of Pop, 1963) Then it was time for this evening's non-ukulele track: 11. Lonely Drifter Karen - This World Is Crazy (Grass Is Singing, 2008) 12. Tony Hatch & Jackie Trent - Don't Stop Now (The Two Of Us, 1968) 13. Robert Drasnin - Moorean Moonbeams (Voodoo II, 2007) Bat For Lashes is coming to Glasgow in support of her new album. Here's our favourite track from her last album: 14. Bat for Lashes - What's a Girl to Do? (Fur and Gold, 2007) Followed by a track from which I think remains my favourite Stereolab album: 15. Stereolab - Miss Modular (Dots And Loops, 1997) We closed the show with a great track from the soundtrack to the latest Dreamworks movie Monsters vs Aliens: 16. The Show On the show this evening we played more of the interviews we recorded at the first UK Maker Faire the other weekend, another track from the latest Monsterism compilation, another track from the Moog Cookbook's last album "Bartell", tracks from some new Dutton Vocalion reissues and much much more besides - including, of course, the ukulele. The Show Tonight at the Moonbase we shall be bringing you a selection of magical musical morsels including tracks from Depth Charge, Tony Osbourne (who sadly departed planet Earth this week), musical saw virtuoso Kev Hopper, Michel Legrand and many others besides. The Music 1. Jack Arel & Pierre Dutour - Bumblebee's Dance (Luke Vibert's Further Nuggets, 2002) Rather marvellously, I discovered this week that RCA Spain have reissued this belter of an album: 2. Henry Mancini - Streets of San Francisco (The Cop Show Themes, 1976) 3. Boots Randolph - Help Me Make It Through The Night (Homer Louis Randolph III) 4. Bobby Byrne - Windy (Shades of Brass, 1969) J Saul Kane, aka Depth Charge, has released his first EP in 5 years: 5. Depth Charge - Mecha Squirrel, Pt. 2 (Mecha Squirrel EP, 2009) Next up a classic track which, thanks to the fine folk at Vadim Music you can now get on a vinyl reissue of the original Archi-Cordes LP: 6. Michel Legrand - Di-Gue-Ding-Ding (Inflight Entertainment, 1964) Gerry Anderson turns 80 next month and if you want to send him your birthday greetings, join Fanderson and then follow the instructions on their website: 7. The Barry Gray Orchestra - Hijacked (Top TV Themes, 1993) The story about the "Beatles Degree" (see below) prompted us to dust off this classic - wonder if it will be covered on the course? 8. William Shatner - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (The Transformed Man) And that was followed by Beatle-esque original composition by the recently departed Tony Osborne: 9. Tony Osborne - John & Paul (Gypsy Creams & Ginger Nuts: Sounds That Swept The Supermarkets, 2007) Chiptune maestro Pixelh gets to play with some old WWII computers on his new project which sounds like this: 10. Pixelh8 - Obsolete? (excerpt) (Obsolete?, 2009) He will also be appearing at the first UK Maker Faire next weekend which myself and the good Dr Woods are planning to attend. On the subject of 8-bit sound, we were delighted to learn of a new release by German artist (not Austrian as we said on the show) Disrupt: 11. Disrupt - SEGA Beats (The Bass Has Left the Building, 2009) 57th best bass player in the world and virtuso musical saw player, Kev Hopper, has generously made his entire back-catalogue available for free! To celebrate this generous act, we thought it fit to play a couple of his tracks on the show, starting with: 12. Kev Hopper (a.k.a Spoombung) - True and False Objects (I Saw Spoombung's Daughter Consumed by Kirby Dots, 2005) Our story about surrogate monkey robot mothers (see below) inspired us to play what MC Zirconium subsequently described as "the worst track ever". Well, I like it: 13. John Hadfield - Robot Monkey Head (Robot Monkey Head, 2006) And then it was time for the second of tonight's tracks by the recently departed Tony Osborne: 14. Tony Osborne's Three Brass Buttons - Soul Street (Further In Flight Entertainment, 1969) For the first (and quite possibly last) time on Project Moonbase, we played a track by Dr John as he happens to have recorded a rather fine version of show favourite, Caravan: 15. Dr. John - Caravan (Duke Elegant, 2003) Then it was time for the second track this evening from Kev Hopper: 16. Kev Hopper - Dust Clouds (Saurus, 2003) MC Zirconium brought us news of giant blue brains invading Belgium - well one at least (see link below) so to prepare for imminent take over of the whole planet we played: 17. Gianni Safred - Electronic Brain (Futuribile, 1980) Today was International Women's Day. So after a show made up entirely of male artists (oops!) we felt it only right to close the show with an absolute belter from the recently released Welcom To The Party compilation on Jazzman Records: 18. Della Reese - It Was A Very Good Year (Welcome To The Party, 2009) The News
